Deadpool & Wolverine is a Very Violent, Very Hilarious, & Very Bloody Good Time

Grade: A+… Usually comic book movies take on a more serious tone. The audience expects to see fights, explosions, and a fair amount of gore. The new Deadpool & Wolverine movie contains all of that and throws in a deluge of jokes throughout the two hour and eight minute runtime, as well as cranking up the gore. If you enjoy seeing two mutants that have a love/hate relationship hilariously insult each other and try to kill each other (even though neither can die) over the course of two hours and change, this is definitely the movie for you.

Growing up and watching superhero movies as a kid was always a fond memory. I will never forget standing in a super long line in San Francisco waiting for my turn to see Michael Keaton dawn the historic Batcape and battle it out on the silver screen with Jack Nicholson’s Joker in 1989’s Batman. Even later on in life, the super hero movies are still making memories with historic moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nobody can ever forget where they were or how they felt when they heard the iconic line from Avengers: Endgame….”Avengers….. assemble!” Everyone in the theater went absolutely nuts during that part of the movie. While the Deadpool & Wolverine movie may not have an iconic line like Avengers: Endgame, nobody will soon forget all the hilarious jokes thrown at them a mile a minute for the entirety of the movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine is basically about Deadpool finally getting a chance to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe but because the movie deals with the “multiverse,” Wolverine is recruited by Deadpool to help prevent his own universe from going away. It is all one large joke because the movie is very self aware and it constantly reminds the audience that Fox is now owned by Marvel/Disney and that Deadpool & Wolverine is a very strongly rated R movie. The fourth wall is broken a few times and let’s just say that Deadpool rubs it in Kevin Feige’s face (in a not so toned down way) that he is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadpool is played by Ryan Reynolds and Wolverine is played by Hugh Jackman. Both actors did an incredible job playing their respective characters. Deadpool is witty and flirty, while Wolverine is tough and a bit of a curmudgeon. Both characters are constantly insulting each other and constantly fighting. It is incredibly entertaining. I had to go see the movie a second time because the insults and jokes are flying at an incredible rate and you’re sure to miss a few of them in the process. No spoilers here, but the cameos and many surprises in the movie are well worth the wait.

I saw the movie first in IMAX 3D and then in Dolby Cinema and I must say that the 3D did actually add to the experience and it was not a gimmick. Many things fly toward you on screen and it was a ton of fun! The Dolby Cinema experience enhanced the many sound effects that immerse you further into the battles on screen.

If you haven’t seen it yet, assemble your best friends and movie watching crew and run to your nearest theater to see Deadpool & Wolverine.
