Grade: B … As the summer box office season starts to wind down, Marvel stepped in to deliver one last lightning bolt aimed at the box office to appease super hero fans!
Five years have passed since 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok” and we were given “Thor: Love and Thunder” this year to escape the hot summer sun and spend some quality time with Marvel’s cool Nordic character.
In this new installment of Thor, Thor teams up with Valkyrie, Korg, and Jane Foster (Thor’s ex girlfriend) to try to defeat Gorr the God Butcher.
The fun and quirky director Taika Waititi is back at the helm to take the audience along for Thor’s latest adventure and delivers some surprises along the way.
The style of “Thor: Love and Thunder” is a bit darker than “Thor: Ragnarok” due to a much more serious tone. Christian Bale, as Gorr the God Butcher, nearly steals the show. Bale is an incredible actor and his performance in “Thor: Love and Thunder” may scare the little kids in the audience. It is also worth noting that Love and Thunder is not nearly as funny as Ragnarok but the action and story is just as good. It is impossible to go into further detail without giving anything away.
Love and Thunder does make you laugh from a few great cameos but it takes a more strictly business approach. Chris Hemsworth is absolutely perfect as Thor and I cannot picture anyone to play him better. Natalie Portman also did a great job as Jane Foster, you will witness great chemistry with Hemsworth.
One great thing Love and Thunder does provide the audience with is a rocking soundtrack! Ninety percent of the music in Love and Thunder comprises of Guns N Roses music and it makes for a very rocking good time!
If you enjoy Thor (or just super hero movies in general), “Thor: Love and Thunder” is very much worthy of your time at the movies. You will laugh a bit and you will be entertained by the chaotic action taking place on the screen! Honestly, Christian Bale’s performance alone is worth the price of admission!
